Scientists recreated faces of ancient Egyptian mummies

Faces of three men who lived in ancient Egypt about two thousand years ago, managed to recreate due to DNA samples extracted from their mummies. This is stated in the article of the Live Science scientific portal. This is the first case of a successful reconstruction of appearance according to the ancient genetic material.

According to scientists, these men died at the age of 25 between 1380 to our era and 425 a year of our era. Their mummies found the ancient Egyptian city of Abusir-El Males, located south of Cairo.

DNA Egyptians were highlighted in 2017 by scientists from the Institute of Max Planck in Germany. Now, employees of the American company on Parabon Nanolabs DNA technologies have created 3D models of people mummies, based on genetic data. Researchers applied DNA phenotyping technology, with which they managed to restore facial features and other physical characteristics of people.

As a result of work, scientists found out that all three men had light brown skin, dark eyes and hair. At the same time, they genetically turned out to be closer to modern residents of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, than to the modern Egyptians.

Previously scientists interested Mysterious Mummy from Pompei. Mummy priest remains discovered the Sarno port of necropolis in the east of the island. Burned was Mark Venus Secondio, 60-year-old freedman. His burial represents a riddle for scientists. Traditions of that time assumed the burning of the remains on the funeral fire – an exception was made only for children. However, the skeleton brand Secundio is one of the most preserved excavations in the pompes.
