Researchers from the UK and the United States have found in the US state of New Mexico prints of Crogenian steps in age 21-23 thousand years. This is the most ancient testimony of a person’s stay in America. The article of scientists was published in the journal Science.
Several dozen traces found an employee of the White Sands National Park, where at the end of the Pleistocena there were several ancient lakes. They were not able to daw until September 2019, until it was possible to find imprints with the deposits located above and below.
Radio carbon dating of the found seeds of rupties, conducted by researchers from the US Geological Service, showed that the age of prints is from 21 to 23 thousand years. The sequence sequence, the researchers say, suggests that prints were left during one of the sharp warming in the last glacial period.
judging by the size, the prints were left in mainly teenagers and children. Next to them there are traces of animals, including megafauna North America – Mammoths and Megather (giant sloths). The researchers emphasize that prints in White-Sands, unlike other archaeological finds, are an undeniable evidence that the person settled America during the last glacial period, and not after it.
Previously, researchers managed to detect traces of human activity to 30 thousand years in the Chikiuta cave. However, some anthropologists challenge the find: the found stone tools are difficult to dawn, in addition, they could move in sediments over time.
