The failure of Christian-Democratic and Christian Unions (XDS / HSS) in the parliamentary elections in Germany can be associated with the results of the personnel policy of the Angels Merkel as Chancellor. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with “Tape.ru” a leading researcher at the Center for German Research Institute of Europe RAS Alexander Kamkin.
The scientist said that Merkel consistently eliminated the tops of the bright and charismatic politicians from the top of the game and put on the key posts of “gray mice”, such as Ursula Vister der Lyien and Annegeret Kramp Carrenbauer. According to him, politicians did not cause confidence in the voters and remained under the complete control of the chancellor, which caused the loss of support. “So she cleaned the political space from competitors,” Kamkin concluded.
The second strategic mistake of Merkel, according to the political scientist, became the loss of the political identity of the CDU, which turned into a folk conservative party of moderately-right-handed in a flexible party trying to mimicarize under the momentary political and processes on the fields of competitors. “In fact, she became absolutely faceless political force, it is not clear whose interests at all representing,” he revealed.
According to Kamkin, these two factors led to the loss of voter’s interest. In addition, such unpopular measures played their role as the opening of borders for refugees, as well as tough restrictions in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.
Previously, the German political scientist Alexander RAR stated that Germany could lose leadership positions in Europe after the departure of Angela Merkel from the post of federal chancellor. He expressed doubts that the new chancellor could quickly get comfortable, create his own line and continue the policies of Merkel.
