Kosovo: a group of Albanians with knives and bottles attacked Serbs

A group of young Albanians with knives and bottles attacked a company of 15 Serbs in South (Albanian) part of Kosovo Mitrovica. This is reported by the Kosovo online portal.

The incident occurred in the administrative building of the Agriculture Agency, where the Serbs came to submit documents. Police arrived at the scene. According to an employee of the agency, no one has suffered as a result of the attack. He noted that he had never happened before. As one of the attacked Serbs told the portal, he received several shots, including head.

The city of Kosovo-Mitrovica, according to the position of the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo and states recognizing its independence of Kosovo, is part of the republic. According to the position of Serbia and countries that do not recognize the independence of Kosovo, the entire territory of the city is part of Serbia. In fact, the northern territory of the city is controlled by Serbia, and the South – partially recognized republic of Kosovo.

On September 23, Kosovo special forces officers beat three Serbs on the “Brunik” checkpoint. It is reported that men rode the firewood when their car stopped the Kosovo police. The victims were taken to the hospital, one of the Serbs told that she did not understand why such measures were applied to them.

Before that, the Kosovo police and special forces under the cover of snipers occupied border crossings “Yarin” and “Brunik” in the north of the region. At the same time, Pristina issued a decree, according to which cars entering the self-proclaimed republic must change their numbers to Kosovo.

Almost immediately, border crossings gathered peaceful protests of Serbs. In response, Kosovo’s special forces applied tear gas, but completely dispersed the demonstrators failed. The authorities in Belgrade demanded from the Kosovo police to leave the border with Serbia. The Serbian side noted that Kosovoians do not fulfill the conditions of the peace agreement. Serbia called on the European Union to resolve this conflict.

The Republic of Kosovo is a partially recognized state in the Balkan Peninsula. It is mostly inhabited by ethnic Albanians, but the Serbian population is also present. Serbia considers the autonomous region of Kosovo and Metokhia – the so-called region in the Serbian constitution – part of its territory, local authorities announced independence in 2008.
