US submarines in Australia can be regarded as an answer to the desire of the European Union to the greater autonomy against the background of the hasty exit of American troops from Afghanistan, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking from the UN Tribunes, writes RIA Novosti.
As the Russian diplomat noted, the “plantation based on the rules” noted, instead of complying with international legislation, leads to “blocking policies”. Because of this, he said, “the dividing lines” are created “between the West and the rest of the states. “However, the latest events have shown that voluntaristic rules can be applied within the Western camp if someone becomes too independent there,” the Foreign Minister.
The Minister called the cause of US and Australia’s actions. “The world’s media regarded the epic with the supply of submarines to Australia as a response to the conversations about the” strategic autonomy “of Europe, which were intensified after the US Hessed output from Afghanistan,” he explained. According to Lavrov, the current situation demonstrates the desire of the West “to build your own world order.”
Earlier, the Minister of Defense of Australia Pitter Dutton said that in the near future Canberra can buy or rent submarines in the United States and Great Britain. According to him, the submarines are needed to rearrange the fleet now, while the completion of the construction of the first atomic submarines in the country is scheduled for 2036.
