The former leader of Catalo Carlos Puchdemon, detained in Italy at the request of Spain and later released free, shared his plans for the future, reports TASS with reference to ANSA agency.
At a press conference in Alghero on the island of Sardinia, the ex-leader of Catalonia told that he plans to continue his journey through Europe. September 27, on Monday, he intends to return to Belgium.
“It was a heavy clock, but this attempt to stop me was not crowned with success,” Puchdemon stressed.
Puchdemon detained on September 24 at Sardinia by the Resolution of the Supreme Court of Spain. The Italian authorities tried to resolve the issue of possible extradition policies for the Spanish territory. Later, Puchdemon was released, the next court session was appointed on October 4.
In Catalonia, mass protests in support of Puchdemon began. Residents of Barcelona reached the rally on the central square of St. James. Similar shares were organized in other cities of autonomy.
October 1, 2017 was a referendum on the independence of Catalonia, in which more than 90 percent of those who voted supported the exit of the region from Spain. After that, the former head of the government of Puchdemon approved the Declaration of Independence of Catalonia, and also appealed to all countries of the world with a request to recognize it by a sovereign state. Later, the Supreme Court of Spain announced the organizers of the referendum on independence of autonomy guilty in the mute and sentenced them to a long prison term. Puchdemon fled from the country.
