Sanctions against Belarusian potassium can lead to a decrease in yield and a new increase in prices for products in the world. Such a reason called the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makay, reports TASS.
“The thoughtless sanction pressure of Western countries in Belarus poses global food security,” he said. The absence of Belarusian potash fertilizers in the global market, which occupy 20 percent of the market will lead to a significant reduction in yield in agriculture, added Makay.
The prevention of Belarusian potash fertilizers to the European market will also negatively affect the economy of the EU itself, the Minister is sure. In this regard, he calls for refusing to apply sanctions against Belarus. Against the background of the fact that almost two billion people in the world are undernourished, “unacceptable the use of food and binding chains as a tool of political pressure and economic blackmail,” considers Makay.
In June, the European Union introduced the fourth package of economic sanctions against Belarus. Under them were 166 physical and 15 legal entities. Brussels restricted the access of Minsk to its financial markets, introduced restrictions on the trade in petroleum products and potash fertilizers, as well as tobacco products.
The United Kingdom, USA and Canada connected to this, which approved a number of restrictions in the relations of the potassium industry of the republic. The causes of sanctions were the actions of the Belarusian authorities against opposition leaders, violence against protesters, as well as a forced landing of the Ryanair aircraft.
