Russia prepared to answer new European tax

The Russian government prepared to respond to a new European carbon tax and began to develop its domestic analogue, write “Vedomosti”. The main goal is to prevent Russian tax in the European Union.

The development of a new mechanism has just begun and is expected to take 1-1.5 years. In the near future, the Government will create working groups with the participation of business representatives to discuss the initiative.

At the same time, developers are going to achieve recognition of new Russian tax at the international level and testing payments within the framework of the future European carbon monitoring system.

We are talking about a cross-border carbon tax developed in the EU, which is planned to be introduced in 2023. It provides for the purchase of importers of carbon production of special certificates, giving the right to import such products.

It is assumed that in this way, exporters from the third will be equated in conditions to local producers forced to raise environmental expenditures within the European policy.
