President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the date of the meeting of the Constitutional Commission, which will discuss the draft new version of the country’s principal law. The meeting of the Constitutional Commission with the participation of the President may take place next Tuesday, September 28, said Lukashenko.
“Project of the Constitution We will discuss in the near future as a whole with the Commission. I want to meet after they have completed a discussion. And then we will create, I think a specific small group that will be professionally refined on our instructions a draft constitution” , – he said.
Lukashenko declared the need to change the Constitution of Belarus against the backdrop of protests engulfed the country after the presidential election in August 2020. He assured that after the adoption of a new version of the Basic Law leaves his post. “With the new constitution, I will not work with you the president,” said Lukashenko.
Constitutional Commission began work in March 2021. In August, she sent refined proposals for the consideration of Lukashenko. The referendum on the new Constitution may take place at the beginning of 2022.
