Police Lieutenant Michael Bird, who shot a Woman veteran US Air Force Ashley Babbit during riots in the Capitol, called himself a “savior of countless lives”: according to him, he had no choice but to open fire. Police officer announced this in an interview with NBC News.
Bird pointed out that he defended the corridor leading to the room where the deputies of the US Houses were located. He along with other police officers barricaded the pass, but the protesters broke the glass into the door and tried to break through the barrage. “I know that that day saved countless lives that day. I know that members of the Congress and my colleagues officers were in a serious danger. What I did is my work,” the policeman stressed. He also noted that after his name fell into the press, he began to regularly come insults and threats.
Earlier it was reported that the Bird was justified: the investigation came to the conclusion that he who killed a protesting policeman could not know whether she was armed with her associates, and acted on the basis of the requirements of their working position.
Ashley Babitt received a gunshot wound into the chest in the building of the Capitol, after which she died in the hospital. Her husband told that she served in the US Air Force for 14 years and was a high-ranking security officer.
