Researchers from Israel found out that ultraviolet sunlight stimulates sexual attraction – both in the mice and in humans. The article of scientists was published in Cell Reports magazine.
It has long been found that the ultraviolet section of the spectrum of solar radiation increases testosterone levels in men. However, its influence on behavioral and hormonal regulation of sexuality was usually unexplored. First, researchers from Tel Aviv University studied the effect of ultraviolet on mice. They were irradiated with ultraviolet B (with a wavelength of 320-400 nanometers). As a result, the females revealed a significantly increased hormonal level, which led to an increase in the ovaries and renewing the time of mating. In addition, the readiness of the irradiated females and males pairing sharply increased. In the second experiment, scientists turned off the triggering pigmentation mechanism when exposed to sunlight P53 protein – and ultraviolet no longer affected sexual behavior.
In the course of the third experiment, 32 people were 32 people, which then filled the Passionate Love Scale questionnaires. Both in women and men rose an attraction to the opposite sex, among the latter, among other things, the level of aggression increased. In the next experiment, participants asked to avoid sunlight two days, and then sunbathing for 25 minutes. Blood testing showed amplification of hormone emissions, in particular testosterone.
The results of the study indicate that the responsible for the assessment of DNA damage and pigmentation is in particular, the tan – under the influence of sunlight, the P53 protein contained in the skin also launches the mechanisms of the endocrine system responsible for sexuality, scientists note. In their opinion, ultraviolet can be used to treat metabolic disorders of steroid genital hormones.
