Bilateral relations between Moscow and Rome are at a good level. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Luigi Di Mayo, reports TASS.
The Head of the Italian Foreign Ministry noted that she sees specific opportunities for further strengthening partnership with the Russian side. He also pointed out the negative impact of anti-Russian sanctions on the national economic interests of Italy.
“We always clearly said that sanctions only the instrument, but not an end in itself, and should serve a broader strategy,” concluded Di Mayo. He stressed that Rome will continue to follow the politics of the European Union, which involves the withdrawal of sanctions from Moscow after the execution of Minsk agreements.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that relations between Russia and the European Union are in a deplorable state. The Foreign Minister noted that the contacts of the Russian side with Brussels decreased to a minimum due to the policy of the EU leaders aimed at restraving Moscow. He also stressed that Russia is ready to establish interaction with European countries in spheres of mutual interest.
