Islamic world called Morocco and Algeria to dialogue

Islamic world called on Algeria and Morocco to the dialogue in order to resolve the conflict, which took place in the gap of diplomatic relations between the two North African powers. It is reported by TV channel Al-Jazeera.

Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the League of Arab States (LAG) and Saudi Arabia called on the parties to reconciliation. “OIC calls on the parties to the dialogue. Both powers have a common story and interests, while being significant participants in the joint Islamic action,” the organization says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia emphasized the “priority of the dialogue needed to achieve stability.” The Secretary General of Lag Ahmed Abu Gate called on both sides to “show restraint” to avoid further escalation.

The relationship between the two countries was aggravated in mid-July, when Algeria recalled from Ribat his ambassador, and on August 24, the parties announced the discontinuity. Officially, the approval of the Algerian side was that Morocco allegedly supports Berber separatism, as well as spying for civil servants. Moroccan Foreign Ministry described the decision of the Algerian side as “absolutely having no reason under him.”

The pretends of the conflict between the two states was the decision of the US President Donald Trump to recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over Western sugar – the former Spanish colony rich in natural resources. Morocco considers these lands with its integral territory, while Algeria maintains the rebel grouping of Polysario, the leading struggle for the independence of the region. In December last year, Morocco became the sixth state, recognizing Israel. The authorities of the country did in exchange for the recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western sugar.
