South African scientists from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases found a new variant of coronavirus, which has a significant amount of mutations. Reports about it Bloomberg.
We are talking about the strain C.1.2, which mutated from C.1. For the first time, C.1.2 found in May in Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces. By August 13, he was recorded in six of the nine provinces of the country. In addition, a new strain penetrated into the Democratic Republic of Congo, Portugal, New Zealand, Switzerland and Mauritius.
According to scientists, C.1.2 gives coronavirus the ability to quickly distribute, as well as increased resistance to vaccines. It is also clarified that inside the group C.1 the speed of the mutation is two times higher than in other variants of coronavirus.
Previously, researchers from the UK found out that Coronavirus SARS-COV-2 mutates almost once a week.
