Leading economies of world could not recover from Covid-19

The world’s leading economies in the organization of economic cooperation and development (OECD) were still unable to fully recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Kommersant writes. Their key indicators are inferior to the level of 2019.

The total GDP of the OECD member countries in the second quarter of 2021 rose by 1.6 percent compared to the first quarter (after growth in the first quarter by 0.6 percent). In absolute values, the indicator remains 0.7 percent below the dagedmium level.

When comparing these individual countries, the greatest gap with the level of 2019 was recorded from the UK – minus 4.4 percent. This is followed by Italy (minus 3.8 percent), France and Germany (minus 3.3 percent).

Exception of the general trend is US, the economy of which in the second quarter of 2021 increased by 0.8 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2019.

At the same time, the Great Britain also marks the greatest increase in the GDP quarter to the quarter – 4.8 percent in April-June versus 1.6 percent in January-March. Next follow Italy (2.7 percent against 0.2), USA and Germany (in both 1.6 percent against 1.5 and two percent, respectively).
