Russia abstained when voting in UN Security Council on Afghanistan

The Permanent Representative of Russia in the UN Vasily Nisilly explained why Moscow abstained when voting on the UN Security Council on resolution on Afghanistan. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to him, the authors of the document ignored the concern of Moscow, without mentioning the text about the fight against the Islamic State “(IG, prohibited in Russia).

On August 30, UN Security Council adopted the United Kingdom resolution, France and the United States, which encourages the Taliban movement (prohibited in Russia) to provide free and safe departure for Afghans and foreigners from Afghanistan. The resolution voted 13 countries, Russia and China abstained.
