In Ministry of Economic Development, they saw risks of forced transition to green agenda

Excessive, forced transition to a green agenda, a green economy, which is proclaimed in a number of Western countries, bears the risk of global income of the population, considers the head of the Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov. He shared his gaze on the problem as part of the SberD-2021 panel session.

According to the head of the department, Russia understands the importance and relevance of the global climate agenda, but there are not enough maturity and a weighted approach to this question. “We quickly passed the point that the climate agenda does not apply to us. We are the Northern Country, where warming is going on a much faster rate, and perfectly understand the seriousness of this issue,” the minister assured.

Reshetnikov stressed that it is impossible to ignore and the international agenda – in particular, the topic of transboundary carbon regulation and the “green” European course (about 14 acts, including refusal of internal combustion engines, reduce coal consumption by 2030).

The head of the Ministry of Economic Development believes that green transformation is potentially risks not only in the field of mining, export of mineral and employment, but also in terms of transport infrastructure. Maxim Reshetnikov recalled that 40 million tons of coal per year are exported through Russian Western ports, and the further loading of this infrastructure after 2030 remains in question. Therefore, the government is developing an updated transport strategy, taking into account the existing perspectives and calls.

In addition, as the minister explained, we are talking about the rise in the cost of metal from 20 to 40% when introducing it with its extraction and processing of environmentally friendly measures. “No one speaks to consumers as a green agenda costs, and whether they are ready to pay for it. There is a risk of inflation caused by a green agenda, as well as a significant fall in the incomes of the population in the world. And if developed countries are more or less prepared, then developing countries. – No, and Africa disappeared at all from the sphere of consideration, emphasized the reshetnikov.

“The climate global agenda in the coming years has to be treated, move from romanticism to pragmatism, go to conversations with business and a population about who will pay for it,” the head of the Ministry of Economic Development.
