Britain’s authorities prepared an action plan for the withdrawal of Nuclear submarines from Scotland in case the region comes out of the United Kingdom. This is reported by the FINANCIAL TIMES (FT) newspaper.
British Armed Forces view several directions to transfer submarines if necessary. According to the publication, one of the options for the placement of the submarine is the Military Base Devonport next to Plymouth. However, to implement this solution, it will be necessary to spend at least three billion pounds.
Another strategy provides for the transfer of submarines to the base in France and in the United States. It is noted that such a step will save financial resources, but it will put under the defense sovereignty of Britain. As another alternative, the British thought about the long-term rental of Scottish bases in Faclane and Culport. At the same time, the Scottish National Party stands for the conclusion of a nuclear arsenal from the region in the event of independence.
In May, the supporters of Independence of Scotland won the elections to the parliamentary region. The leader of the Scottish National Party and the first Minister of the Region of Nikola Sterdzhin promised to hold a referendum on the independence of Scotland shortly after the end of the coronavirus crisis. The first vote on the independence of Scotland took place on September 18, 2014. Then about 55 percent of the referendum participants spoke in favor of the country’s preservation as part of the United Kingdom.
