US Ministry of Justice promised to protect Texas residents from ban on abortion

US Prosecutor General Merrick Garland promised a resident of Texas to challenge the law on abortion constraints, introduced last week in the state. This is reported by Fox News.

The Prosecutor General said that the Ministry of Justice now urgently examines all possible options for how to challenge the SB8 law adopted on September 1 to “protect the constitutional rights of women and other persons, including access to the abortion service.” Garland noted that this bill violates citizens to freedom of access to medical institutions.

According to the new law, it is forbidden to do an abortion if the fetal already has a heartbeat. An exception will be cases when the conception occurred as a result of incest or rape. The only case when a woman can legally make an abortion – if there is an “emergency medical nature”. At the same time, human rights groups note that in fact the law introduces the prohibition of abortions in general, since 85-90 percent of women usually make abortion on the period of six weeks of pregnancy.

The law allows citizens to submit claims against persons who produce abortions, as well as those who help pregnant to break the law – including to get to the medical institution where the operation is planned. Citizens who won such claims, “will have the right to receive” at least 10 thousand dollars.
