Earlier, the Secretary General of the Japanese Government Katsunobu Kato stated that the decision of the Russian leader contradicts the position of Tokyo on smokers, as well as the essence of the discussions of joint economic activity, which was carried out until this point.
On September 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the World Economic Forum, said that the Kuril Islands would create a special tax regime for business. According to him, companies will be exempted from taxes for ten years. The head of state noted that both Russian and foreign investors will be able to use these tax and customs advantages. Alexey Chekunkov, head of minevostocution, noted that the special tax regime on the Kuril Islands will be launched until the end of this year.
Moscow and Tokyo cannot sign a peace treaty on the results of the Second World War due to the territorial dispute around the southern part of Kuril. Japan considers the Islands of ITUURUP, Kunashir, Shikotan and a group of Habmioma Islands with its “northern territories”. Moscow does not recognize the very fact of the territorial dispute.
