Brexit-based labor deficit forced the Scots to throw away the Scottish. As Independent writes, due to a lack of agricultural workers and truck drivers had to get rid of the huge crop of broccoli and cauliflower.
East of Scotland Growers (ESG) Farm Cooperative Representatives (ESG) were calculated that since the release of the United Kingdom from the European Union, they threw 3.5 million inflorescences of Broccoli and 1.9 million Cauliflower Inflorescences. The head of ESG Andrew Faichni suggests that by the end of the year the crisis is only aggravated. “We had to start freezing the products on weekends (September 4 and 5), but due to the lack of workers could not put a single fetus,” the Faichni admitted.
Crop losses occur due to the deficit of collectors and lack of truck drivers for the transport of vegetables to refrigeration enterprises. In addition, the lack of canned products forced the retailers to prefer products with a short shelf life, because of which the warehouses were overfolded, and now there is no place to store freezing.
Now ESG lacks 20 percent of employees, which means that the remaining 80 percent are forced to recycle and receive additional money for extra-clock. Andrew Faichny fears that many of them will go away when they have their own financial goals.
A survey conducted by Yougov showed that 56 percent of 3.5 thousand consumers in the United Kingdom felt the deficit of goods on the shelves of supermarkets. The most difficult to get the necessary products was the inhabitants of Scotland – 67 percent of respondents from the region stated. In the UK, the situation is a little better – there is a shortage of food touched 57 percent of citizens.
In early September, Scottish food and farmer organizations sent a letter to the authorities of Great Britain and Scotland with a request to influence the labor crisis on the eve of the winter holidays – the most intense season for business. They called for governments to facilitate entry into the territory of the United Kingdom to foreign citizens to establish food supplies to Christmas. According to manufacturers, this is the only way to quickly get rid of labor deficit and avoid further increase in prices for food.
