Washington condemns the convictions made by members of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian Opposition of Mary Kolesnikova and Maxim Sign. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, reports TASS.
Diplomat called the court decision politically motivated and shameful and noted that the case against opposition was fabricated. In his opinion, the sentences prove the negligence relationship of the regime of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to human rights and the main freedoms of citizens.
“We, together with like-minded partners, support the desire of the Belarusian people to the democratic, which is a prosperous future in a free and independent country,” Blinken stressed. He called on official Minsk to stop repressions against residents and free all political prisoners.
On September 6, the court sentenced Kolesnikov and sign to 11 and 10 years of imprisonment in the case of a conspiracy in order to capture the authorities and the creation of extremist formation. The sentence was announced publicly, despite the fact that the case was considered in closed mode. Protection of oppositionists announced the injustice of sentences and intends to appeal them.
