Japan responded to Russia’s decision to introduce a special tax regime on Kurilla

Japan has made the report of Russia in connection with the plans for the introduction of a special tax regime in the Kuril Islands. This is reported by TASS.

According to the Secretary General of the Japanese Government, Katsunobu Kato, such a decision of the Russian authorities contradicts Tokyo’s position on smokers, as well as the essence of discussions of joint economic activity, which was carried out until this point.

At the same time, the head of the Cabinet emphasized that Tokyo is still ready to continue to lead a discussion of joint economic activities on the southern part of the Kuril Islands, provided that it will not contradict the legal position of Japan.

On September 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the WEF, stated that a special tax regime for business will be created on the Kuril Islands. According to him, companies will be exempted from taxes for ten years. The head of state noted that both Russian and foreign investors will be able to use these tax and customs advantages. Alexey Chekunkov, head of minevostocution, noted that the special tax regime on the Kuril Islands will be launched until the end of this year.

Moscow and Tokyo cannot sign a peace treaty on the results of the Second World War due to the territorial dispute around the southern part of Kuril. Japan considers the Islands of ITUURUP, Kunashir, Shikotan and a group of Habmioma Islands with its “northern territories”. Moscow does not recognize the very fact of the territorial dispute.
