Disclosed a way to reduce risk of death from all reasons

American doctors found out that people who make 7,000 steps a day or more, less risk of death from all reasons than those who go less. Research results are disclosed in Jama Network Open.

Scientists led by Mercedes Carneton (Mercedes R. Carnehon) from the North-West University conducted a study among 2110 women and men aged 38 to 50 years. The study began in 1985.

In 2005-2006, the study participants were asked to wear an accelerometer on the thigh every day during the week to measure the level of physical activity. After that, experts calculated the average number of steps and on the basis of these data divided people into three groups.

In the first group there were people with low levels of physical activity. They did an average of less than 7,000 steps a day. In the second – people with an average level of physical activity – 7000-9999 steps a day, and in the third those who passed more than 10,000 steps per day. Observation was conducted for participants until 2018, registering all deaths.

As a result, experts found out that the risk of death from all reasons in the group of participants with a high and middle level of physical activity was significantly lower in comparison with the participants whose level of physical activity was low. At the same time, the statistically significant connection between the number of steps per minute and mortality was not.

In addition, in the group of people with minor physical activity there were more participants with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Also, physical activity was also associated with high cognitive abilities in old age.

Previously, researchers from Sweden found out that a screening study on atrial fibrillation can reduce the risk of stroke, strong bleeding and death. For participants who have passed screening examination, the atrial fibrillation was revealed more often. 31.9 percent The person from this group experienced a stroke, strong bleeding or died.
