Apple patented the iMac computer, the body of which is made of a solid piece of glass. This is reported by the Patently Apple edition.
The new invention has noticed on the website of the Office for Patents and Commodity Signs of the United States (USPTO). The device is a computer-monoblock, consisting of a solid piece of glass bent to the bottom. The device has a display and keyboard located on a single substrate. Processor, motherboard, RAM and other components of the device are inside the case.
At the bottom and back of the computer is the stand, allowing the design to keep smoothly on the horizontal surface. Apparently, the device screen is created on the basis of a flexible OLED panel, as the display is a bit bent at the bottom.
Apple Engineers described the method by which the company intends to produce glass for a computer. The glass housing can be made of transparent, coated, painted or other materials treated to produce an opaque component. The case partially consists of translucent polymers and translucent ceramics.
Actual computers of the American brand are based on a solid piece of polished aluminum. The glass case is used in other devices: for example, in the iPhone.
Earlier, Apple patented a smartphone that can be controlled by breathing. The company’s engineers have provided the ability to control the functions of the iPhone when both hands of the user are occupied.
