The Supreme Court of Mexico decriminalized abortions in the early periods of pregnancy and canceled criminal punishment for them. It is reported by RT.
The court considered the appropriate law in Coaauil in the north of the country and recognized him unconstitutional. The state criminal code provided for a sentence in the form of imprisonment for up to three years for women who have made an abortion, as well as for citizens who provide such services.
All judges unanimously supported the decision on decriminalization. “This is a historical step to protect the rights of women,” said Judge Louis Maria Agilar. Representatives of human rights organizations have hoped that the decision on abortions will affect not only Mexico, but also to other Latin American countries.
September 1 became known that in the US state of Texas banned abortions in more than six weeks, if the fetal already has a heartbeat. A woman can make an abortion only under the condition of the “emergency medical situation”. An exception will be cases when the conception occurred as a result of incest or rape. Human rights defenders criticized the law, and the US Prosecutor General Merrick Garland promised to challenge him.
