Gazprom Neft and the NLMK Group will cooperate in the field of production, transportation, storage, hydrogen use, as well as the development of carbon dioxide utilization technologies. The consulting Memorandum was signed between the companies, which “Lent.Ru” reported in the press service “Gazprom Neft”.
According to the signed document, companies are collected together to develop projects in the field of capturing and storage of CO2, as well as hydrogen energy. In particular, the possibilities of using hydrogen in metallurgy, as well as natural gas and renewable energy sources in order to develop the eco-friendly hydrogen production. It is planned to explore and develop hydrogen transportation and storage technologies.
Currently, oil, gas and coal are used to produce hydrogen. Partners will develop solutions for the safe utilization of the released carbon dioxide. Gazprom Neft already has technologies to create a closed trapping cycle and drilling carbon dioxide into oil deposits to a depth of more than 2,500 meters. Since 2015, these decisions are applied at the NIS Rusanda field (Joint Enterprise Gazprom Neft and the Republic of Serbia).
Gazprom Neft today already produces more than 100 thousand tons of hydrogen on their technological sites, and in the plans until 2024 – an output to an indicator of 250 thousand tons.
“Reduced carbon footpring – a comprehensive task of a national and global scale. It is possible to solve it only by uniting the efforts of companies from various industries. Exchange of experience allows you to create new approaches to the development of hydrogen energy, as well as capturing and disposing of CO2. In our work we already use Technologies that reduce carbon emissions, and are ready to share them with partners, “Vadim Yakovlev, Deputy Chairman of the Board, noted Vadim Yakovlev.
“We are pleased to cooperate in the field of decarbonization with our Gazprom Neft partner: joint efforts to develop hydrogen energy, catching and disposal of CO2 will speed up the introduction of new technologies to reduce the impact on climate,” said Vice President for Energy and Ecology of the Group NLMK Sergey Chebotarev.
In June 2021, Gazprom Neft entered into similar agreements with Severstal and Evraz.
