One of the largest shell oil companies will build a renewable fuel production plant in Rotterdam (Netherlands), Bloomberg reports. He must start work in 2024.
After the launch of the oil giant plant will produce 820 thousand tons of renewable aviation and diesel fuel per year and will become one of the largest in Europe. Thus, Shell performs a goal for gradual abandonment of traditional oil refineries.
It is assumed that carbon emissions in the process of fuel production will be captured, and then stored in an empty gas field in the North Sea area.
Schell is already working on several projects of environmentally friendly reactive fuel. In particular, the energy giant is developing environmentally friendly aviation fuel for Rolls-Royce Holdings. Schell also invested in Lanzajet, producing fuel from recycled alcohol.
Oil giant seeks to reduce the production of traditional fuels more than half to 2030 and is actively involved in the transition to “green” energy. Among other things, he promised to establish 50 thousand charging stations for electric vehicles in the UK. The company is forced to do this due to the pressure of investors who require more active measures to combat climate change from oil companies.
