Afghanistan needs urgent and sustainable support from the international community to prevent a more large-scale humanitarian crisis, the UN High Commissioner for Filippo Grandi Refugees (Filippo Grandi) stated after a three-day visit to the country, writes Reuters.
“The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan remains hopeless,” he described and predicted the country “Even greater suffering.” According to him, the situation may touch other states. “If social institutions and economics are collapsed, we will see even greater suffering, instability and movement both within the country and abroad,” he promised a new wave of migrants peace.
Grande clarified that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan will have global consequences. As the UN representative noted, even before the Taliban arrival (the Taliban movement is recognized as terrorist and prohibited in Russia), more than 18 million Afghans, or about half of the population, needed humanitarian aid.
Earlier, the UN collected humanitarian aid in the amount of $ 1.1 billion for Afghanistan during the conference in Geneva. Money will guide the country’s development projects and the prevention of the humanitarian crisis.
