Rheinmetall Bae Systems Land (RBSL) introduced a demonstration sample of the modified Challenger 3 tank on the defense exhibition DSEI-2021 in Britain. The tank has received an updated fire management system, improved security and mobility, – reports Defence Blog.
The developer claims that Challenger 3 will become the most combat-ready tank in NATO. The demonstration sample received elements of the Trophy active protection complex, which complement the passive protection of the tank.
Standard tool gave way to the L55A1 smooth-bore cannon, which allows the use of modern ammunition DM53 and DM11 with an air undermining. In turn, the fire management system Challenger 3 includes new thermal impairs. The mass of the renewed car is about 66 tons.
In May RBSL signed a contract with the UK Ministry of Defense at the modernization of CHALLENGER 2 tanks to the CHALLENGER 3 level.
British Tank Challenger 2 is operated since 1995. For 14 years of production, more than 400 cars were released. The main instrument of the base model was the cutting gun L30E4, and the machine’s secureness provided the combined armor “Dorchester”. Challenger 2 was used during the fighting in Iraq and Kosovo.
