President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on pardon 13 people. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the deputy head of the administration of the head of state Olga Chupris.
As explained Chupris on the air of the television channel “Belarus-1”, we are talking about convicted citizens, including for an active part in the mass riots. According to her, the head of the institution “Round Table of Democratic Forces” Yuri Voskasrenesky conveyed Lukashenko from 100 people who offered to pardon.
The analysis of the list showed that most of the pardoned committed “crimes through the Internet.” Chupris noted that the pardoned “sincerely repented in the deed, said that we had little understood that the Internet had contributed to the commission of crimes.” At the same time, there are several people in the list of pardon, “who committed hooliganism, actively participated in the mass riots,” added a representative of the administration of the Belarusian president.
In Belarus, more than half a year continued mass protests after the presidential election on August 9, 2020. Shares were tightly suppressed by the security forces. Tens of thousands of people were detained. Subsequently, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus reported that more than 4.2 thousand criminal cases were instituted for extremism and terrorism.
