The resolution of the dispute associated with the Russian law on marking champagne, suggests that all the controversy around this issue was just a misunderstanding and hayp of individual organizations. This was stated by the President of the Union of Vineyards and winemakers Leonid Popovich in a conversation with a radio station “says Moscow.”
According to him, the market did not feel any consequences of the dispute: high-quality French champagne continued to enter the Russian market. Delivery interruptions were so short-term that remained unnoticed for the buyer. “These conversations simply created an advertisement to certain organizations that speak most of all. I do not want to call them, I do not want to continue to advertise them,” Popovich.
Earlier, the French agreed to return champagne to Russia – deliveries resumed from September 15. According to the co-chairman of the Wine Committee, Jean-Marie Barier, suppliers will respect the Russian law. It also became known that Russia and France agreed to create a working group on the solution of a dispute related to the Russian champagne marking law.
Problems with deliveries originated when Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law, according to which only domestic producers can use the “champagne” description on the reverse side of the bottle. Due to the incident, the shipment stopped 95 percent of trading houses. The champagne wines committee called the changes inadmissible, reminding that the term “champagne” himself is associated with the historical region in France.
