French presidential candidate, the leader of the French Socialists, Jean-Luke Melanchon demanded that the country came out of NATO. It is reported by Boursorama.
Politician made such a statement against the background of a recent scandal due to the release of Australia from the contract for submarines with the French Naval Group, which the media called the Transaction of the Century. Canberra ruined a major contract with Paris for the sake of obtaining American atomic submarines.
“Paris need to stop taking themselves with illusions, as well as to get out of the North Atlantic Alliance and close the center of best experience NATO in the field of space security, which the states want to post in Toulouse,” said Melanchon.
Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Drian called the “blow to the back” of Australia’s refusal from the construction of diesel-electric submarines. He stressed that France is waiting for explanations from both the United States and Australia. According to the minister, the contract was discussed for two years, and the confidence in the Australian side is now undermined.
September 16, Kanbera, London and Washington concluded a partnership agreement in the Defense and Security Aukus. His goal is to “protect and defend common interests in the Indo-Pacific region.”
