In Red Cross threatened by destabilization in all South Asia due to Afghanistan

The situation in Afghanistan can lead to destabilization in all countries of South Asia. This was stated by the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer, reports TASS.

The leader of the humanitarian organization made his conclusion after the visit to Kabul and negotiations with representatives of the Taliban (a terrorist organization prohibited in Russia). According to him, such a development of events does not correspond to the interests of both the region and the international community.

“It is extremely important that we make emergency measures, even if they are temporary,” said Maurer. In his opinion, the international community should contribute to the restoration of the economic and financial systems of Afghanistan. He threatened that the politicization of humanitarian assistance will lead to an even deeper crisis.

On September 10, the head of the UN Mission to promote Afghanistan Deborah Lyons stated that the lack of financial assistance from the international community would lead Afghans to poverty and mass hunger. It will cause a large stream of Afghan refugees, and will also drop Afghanistan “back to many generations.”
