Russia has played an important role in organizing the trip director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi in Iran, which has contributed to defusing the situation with the nuclear deal. This became known to the newspaper “Kommersant” from independent sources close to the agency’s secretariat.
According to the newspaper, Russia has repeatedly called for an early resumption of negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (SVPD) in Vienna. At the same time Moscow did not prevent a sharp criticism of the new Iranian government.
The Russian side indicated that it will vote against the anti-Iran resolution at IAEA. “Kommersant” notes that Moscow has refused to participate in the resolution devoted to the US special envoy meeting on Iran, Robert Malley and colleagues from France, Britain and Germany, which took place in Paris. However, before the negotiations in the French capital Malley met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in Moscow. Immediately after that, according to the newspaper, he phoned with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahianom.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova said that the shortest let to restore Iran’s nuclear deal – the US and Iran return to the systematic implementation of its obligations under SVPD. She noted that the root cause of the current complexity of the transaction has not yet been resolved, and called on all the partners back to the negotiating table and reach an agreement.
