According to experts, Microsoft is aware of cases of performing attacks on users using the MSHTML mechanism developed for Internet Explorer browser. Attackers can use the malicious ActiveX control and embed it in the file of any of the Office software package.
The Corporation reports that the attack is most susceptible to the users of Windows Server 2008-2019 and Windows 8.1-10. Hacking begins with MS Office files by mail. The described vulnerability is recognized by the company’s experts critical and has a hazard level of 8.8 out of 10.
Specialists clarified that problems can be avoided if you abandon the opening of files sent via the Internet from unknown sources. It is also recommended to run all documents entering the computer in the secure view mode, which is activated by default.
Microsoft promised to imagine the update correcting vulnerability in the near future. At the moment, technical support staff recommended over the settings to disable the installation of all ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer.
