Lukashenko refuted plans to “cut off Baltic States” during exercises “West-2021”

Russia and Belarus regularly conduct joint military exercises in order to increase the defense of the armies of two states and the development of joint actions in the event of an external threat. This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, transfers BelTA.

According to him, the Presidents of Belarus and Russia always sought to protect the sovereignty and national security of countries together. The Belarusian leader added that the teachings “West-2021”, which, among other things, will take place on the border with the Baltic republics, will demonstrate the readiness of the armies of the two countries to protect the Union State.

Lukashenko noted that Russian-Belarusian maneuvers do not bear a gross nature. “Once that we almost with the Baltic States,” he said, refuting such accusations from some European Union countries.

From September 10 to September 16, Military teachings “West-2021” will be held in Belarus. During them, the parties will work out the security of the Union State. On the eve of the teachings, Lukashenko was phoned with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the conversation, the parties discussed the topic of cooperation in the field of training of military and special services.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia due to the upcoming teachings made a clash of NATO and Russia. The head of the Foreign Ministry Edgar Rinkevich said that maneuvers would lead to the “NATO misunderstanding of some actions” from Russia and Belarus.
