Under the leadership of Valentina Glushko, a unique reusable Space system “Energy-Buran” and the basic block of a long-term orbital station “Peace” were created. The engines of its development were established on many types of combat ballistic missiles, ensuring the creation of a reliable defensive shield of our country.
From the young age, he chose himself a goal and did not change it. All his life, he remained faithful to his vocation – the development of rocket technology. He put the tasks on the verge of a possible and achieve their implementation. He created a school of domestic rocket engine, which became the forge of specialists of the highest qualification. Under his leadership, engineers created the richest scientific developments, laid the fundamental basics of creating rocket engines, all that and today successfully serves as the main goal of NGO Energomash – the creation of rocket engines, leading its time.
Valentin Glushko was born on September 2, 1908 in Odessa. In 1929 he graduated from the University of Leningrad. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1929, he became the head of the unit for the development of engines and missiles in the composition of the gas dynamic laboratory in Leningrad. In 1934, continued to work as part of Renia in Moscow. In 1938, it was unreasonably arrested and in 1939 sentenced to 8 years. He worked in the 4th specialty of the NKVD in Tushino, then in Kazan, where he headed by the KB on the EDR.
In August 1944, he was ahead of schedule with the removal of criminal record, and on December of the same year, he continued to work in Kazan as the head of the experimental design bureau of special engines (OKB-SD). In 1945-1946, he participated in the study of German rocket technology in Germany. Together with the OKB-SD team since 1946, he continued to work in Khimki chief designer OKB-456, KB Energomash. From 1974 – Director and General Designer of NGO “Energia”, which, in addition to 1990, was part of KB Energomash.
Brilliant scientist and designer, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, Laureate of Lenin and State Prizes, Academician Valentin Petrovich Glushko passed truly great, saturated life path.
