Kazakhstan President Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev appointed Murat Bektanov a new minister of defense of the republic. Document on the appointment is published on the official website of the President of Kazakhstan.
Before that, Bektanov served as the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (Sun) of the Republic and the First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Defense, which, before the resignation, was Nurlan Ermekbaev.
On August 31, Tokayev took the resignation of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Nurlan Ermekbayev after PE in the warehouse of ammunition in the Zhambyl region, the victims of which were 15 people.
On August 26, a series of explosions occurred in the military unit in the Zhambyl region, after which the ammunition began to take into the air. As a result, 700 inhabitants of nearby villages were evacuated, about 90 people were injured, 15 people died. On August 29, another explosion thundered at the military base, there were no victims.
After the incident, the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan Ermekbaev filed a resignation. Then the head of the defense department stated that he made a decision for himself in the first minutes after reports of explosions, but at first he intends to do everything possible to eliminate the effects of explosions.
