Dutch scientists calculated the number of sick coronavirus among grafts. Analysis of the group of vaccinated medical staff has shown that the fraction of the diseased is less than one percent. Most cases fall on a new delta strain. The results of the study are published on the preprints of Medrxiv.org.
The purpose of the study was the assessment of the possibility of COVID-19 to overcome the barriers created by vaccines. It is known that all existing drugs do not have absolute efficiency. Scientists from the medical center of Erasmus together with researchers at the University of Radbud in the Netherlands revealed what variants of the virus are more likely to overcome the immunity of the vaccinated patient.
The authors of the study analyzed the statistics of the incidence of employees of two different hospitals. Scientists took into account cases of the disease, which appeared later than 14 days from the date of administration of the second component of the vaccine. The second condition was the absence of a positive result of the analysis to coronavirus for 45 days before vaccination.
The study showed that out of 24,706 people who have passed vaccination, only 161 patients sick. This is 0.65 percent of the graft patients from the group. The authors of the study note that 90.5 percent of infection cases are associated with the Delta strain, and the average age of infected was 25.5 years. Also, scientists note the high resistance of the body of graft patients – most infected demonstrated the threshold values of PCR tests three days after the symptoms manifest.
Research results demonstrate that vaccination is effective to prevent the difficult form of COVID-19, – summarize the authors. Meanwhile, even vaccinated people can get infected and become a carrier of infection.
Scientists emphasize that their study did not affect the effectiveness of individual vaccines.
