Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the merits of “Northern Flow-2” for Europe.
According to him, the assertions of European countries that the gas pipeline will strengthen their dependence on gas from Russia, unfounded. He stated that the Northern Stream-2 will strengthen Europe’s energy security for decades ahead. “We consider the construction of the North Stream-2 gas pipeline as an exclusively commercial, mutually beneficial project,” said Lavrov.
The minister stressed that with the commissioning of the gas pipeline, additional diversification of gas transit routes will be provided without increasing its volumes at the moment. In addition, the sustainable gas supplies to European consumers can be carried out along the shortest path, this will lead to a decrease in the “ecological trail” from its transportation.
“That’s why European capitals interested in the project firmly advocate the completion of the gas pipeline construction,” the head of the department stressed.
Gas pipeline “Northern Stream-2” is completed by 99 percent. The pipeline with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas in the year spins from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. Construction should finish by the end of the summer of 2021.
