India: dozens of believers voluntarily threw each other with stones and suffered

Dozens of people suffered on the annual religious chastival of stones in the north of India. It is reported by the Times of India.

According to the publication, we are talking about the Bagwal Festival, which runs on the territory of the Davidhur Temple in the Indian state of Uttarakhand in honor of the day of the full moon. During the festival, people voluntarily throw each other with stones to thread the ruling deity with a spilled blood. This year, after the event, 75 people appealed for medical care.

The temple community member said that in 2013 the court ordered the believers to use flowers and fruits instead of stones. However, the Hindus did not agree with a similar measure, as possible revenge from the deity for the lack of a bloody victim.

August 8 reported that the court in Delhi sentenced the elderly local priest named Vishwa Bandhu (Vishwa Bandhu) to life imprisonment for the rape of two girls 7 and 9 years in the temple. It is noted that a 76-year-old man did not express repentance at either one of the stages of the proceedings. In addition to life imprisonment, he was sentenced a fine of 50 thousand rupees for rape and 10 thousand rupees for intimidation of the victims.
