The use of marijuana in adolescence increases the risk of premature children – even after 20 years, scientists from Australia and the UK found out. Their article is published in the Journal Scientific Reports.
Researchers from the University of Bristol and the Children’s Research Institute of Merdoca analyzed the data on the health of 665 Australians and 1030 of their children. Parents learned whether they used tobacco and marijuana aged 14 to 29 years. It is noted that 30 percent of children of their mom and dad used irregularly marijuana aged 15 to 17, three – daily.
Researchers found out that among such children the share of premature or insufficient weight at birth was six times more compared with those whose parents did not use the drug in adolescence. Among all children of participants in the study, their share amounted to 20 percent.
Earlier, a number of studies have already related to the use of marijuana mothers during pregnancy with the birth of premature children
