Coronavirus pandemic led to the fact that fishermen lovers began to get involved in their hobbies more, researchers from the United States. The article of scientists is published in the magazine Plos One.
Specialists from the University of Louisiana decided to find out to which the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic led among fishermen. To this end, in July 2020, they sent an invitation to pass online survey more than 241 thousand people who have licensed fishing. Researchers received answers from 18 thousand respondents out of ten states. Among other things, fishermen asked to answer, whether they were more or less fishing from the moment of the rank of pandemic, what was their motivation and think that fishing is safe in the conditions of proliferation of coronavirus.
It turned out that on average one of five lovers began to fish more. In the pandemic, the number of trips compared with previous spring increased by 0.2 per fisherman. Most respondents considered that their passion was not a special risk during a pandemic. Almost 50 percent of the respondents worked on abbreviated schedule and were happy to go fishing, as it is a relatively cheap hobby. Among the most common reasons, they were notified by the removal of stress, the opportunity to communicate and finding in nature.
