UN mission in Afghanistan will establish contacts with “Taliban” to help population

UN Mission to promote Afghanistan (UNAMA) continues to establish contacts with the leaders of the Taliban movement (prohibited in Russia). This was announced at a briefing a special representative and head of Unama Deborah Lyons, reports TASS.

According to her, relations with the heads of terrorist movement must be established for vital assistance to the Afghan civilian population. She also noted that many militant leaders are now outside Afghanistan. Previously, the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan Ramiz Alakbarov said that the Taliban themselves asked the UN to continue the work of the Humanitarian Mission in Afghanistan.

Alakbarov added that there were no new agreements between the UN and Taliban in the last days. At the same time, the Taliban is supported with the mission of working contacts and are assigned in support of their part. On August 18, the Russian Embassy has notified that the Russian aircraft transported new UN Mission Employees to Kabul.
