The age of the father affects successful childbirth when using auxiliary reproductive technologies, researchers from the UK. The article of scientists is published in the scientific journal Acta ObStetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica.
It is known that the older the woman is, the greater the danger that it will not be able to give the help of artificial fertilization. The influence of the age of the father is revealed in the scientific literature. Researchers conducted a retrospective cohort analysis of 4833 pairs, using the methods of extracorporeal fertilization or intracitoplasmic spermatozoic injection from December 2009 to August 2018 in one of London’s reproductive health centers.
It was found that 40.8 percent of cases ended with the birth of a living child. At the same time, for fathers to 35 years, this figure amounted to 48.9 percent, and for those who were over 51 – 29.5 percent. The chances of conception also decreased – the indicators were 49.8 percent and 30.5 percent, respectively. At the same time, the age of the father did not affect the risk of miscarriage.
At the same time, scientists recognize that they could not take into account other health factors of fathers affecting the success of artificial fertilization, such as body weight index, the habit of smoking and related diseases.
