Space career Sergei Treshcheva began in March 1992, when he was enrolled in the cosmonauts detachment of the Scientific and Production Association “Energy” (now – the National Space Corporation named after S. P. Korolev, is part of the state corporation “Roskosmos “).
In his space flight, Sergey Evgenievich went on June 5, 2002 as a flight specialist in Shuttle “Endeavor” STS-111 and a flight engineer of the 5th main expedition to the ISS, together with Valery Korzun (Russia) and Peggy Whitson (USA). In the process of the expedition, Sergey Treshchev performed one way out into open space for 5 hours 21 minutes. On December 7, 2002, the crew after the 184-day flight was safely returned to Earth on the Shuttle “Indenevory” STS-113.
For courage and heroism, manifested when performing space flight, S.E. Treshchev was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the presentation of the medal “Golden Star”.
