“It is about to save the lives of German citizens, staff from among the representatives of the world community and other persons, for which Germany is particularly responsible,” says the text of the decision of the German government.
The basis of this operation was the previously obtained consent of the Afghan government for staying in the country of the military contingent of Germany. It is expected that the mission of German servicemen will last until September 30, 2021. The cost of the rescue operation is estimated at 40 million euros.
Western countries began to evacuate their citizens, staff of diplomatic missions, as well as Afghans who previously collaborated with the troops of the international coalition, after the capture of Kabul by the militants of the Taliban movement (prohibited in Russia) on August 15.
