The President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman stated that the failure of the US achievements in Afghanistan after the departure of American troops and the allied countries for the North Atlantic Alliance forced him to doubt NATO. His words sounded in an interview with Parlamentni Listy.
“NATO disbelief from a number of member countries will grow after this experience, because they will say – if you failed in Afghanistan, where is the guarantee that you do not fail in any other critical situation?”, Zeman.
The President reminded that the main task of the Alliance – the struggle against terrorism, and now it turned out to be failed. He called on the Czech Republic not at the contribution to the overall military budget NATO, but on its own security and national defense.
Earlier, the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg appreciated the situation in Afghanistan: according to him, in the rapid collapse of the Afghan government established under the USA.
