The mental health of women suffers especially because of the increase in processing during quarantine. The British authorities were offered a bill, which will give employees right to completely disconnect from working communications in their free time, writes The Guardian.
Mass transition to the remotely caused the “epidemic of hidden overtime”, which particularly affects women, showed the report of the AUTONOMY ThinkTank analytical center. Unpaid labor has become a very relevant problem in the remote employment era.
Previous study of overwork during a pandemic conducted by autonomy together with two other companies showed that at all stages of coronacrises, his negative impact on mental health was felt much more women. In addition, it turned out that women by 43 percent more often receive additional work than men. If the workers have children, overtime labor even more increases the risk of mental disorders.
In the framework of the report, a bill was proposed, which guarantees employees the right to completely disconnect from all service communications by operating time – “Right to Disable” (A Right to Disconnect). For example, it is proposed to save employees from the need to respond to calls or read emails when the working day came to an end. Director of Research in Autonomy Will Stront believes that Pandemic “has strengthened the need to create clearer borders between work and family life,” and the adoption of the law will contribute to improving the situation.
The government does not support the “right to shut-off”, but with it a working group has been created, which is engaged in the problems of working at home that have arisen during a pandemic.
